The evening starts with an in-depth interview by a guest journalist, Martin Veitch, Editor in Chief of CIO Magazine, who will question Mike on the key factors that brought Autonomy success, including: how their growth strategy and business model has evolved and where its headed, the critical role that leadership plays in creating success, the challenges of building a fast growth business and the biggest pitfalls to avoid. The evening will end with a Q&A session followed by networking where you will have the opportunity to meet with Mike. Who is the interviewee? Dr Mike Lynch OBE founded Autonomy Corporation plc in 1996 based on his research at Cambridge University and rapidly established the company's reputation as a world-leading provider of infrastructure software for unstructured information and meaning-based technologies. Over the years he has expanded the Autonomy Group both organically and through a series of targeted acquisitions. December 2005 saw Autonomy’s $500 million acquisition of former competitor Verity which consolidated the company’s position as number one in the market and in 2007 Autonomy acquired ZANTAZ, a global leader in content archiving and electronic discovery solutions, for $375 million anticipating a key area of growth. ZANTAZ now manages the world’s largest email archive and is an acknowledged leader in message archiving software. Autonomy now has a market cap of $4 billion, is the second largest pure software company in Europe and was named the Best Performing Software Company in Europe in 2007. Dr Lynch recently won Innovator of the Year at the European Business Leaders Awards (EBLA), beating executives from SAP and Nokia, for pioneering new approaches to enterprise search and information processing technology. He is a past winner of the CBI’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a non-executive director of the BBC and a non-executive director of blinkx plc. Who is the interviewer? Martin Veitch is editor in chief of CIO magazine. He started his IT journalism career at PC Week in 1990 and joined Ziff-Davis UK in 1992, helping to launch PC Direct and rising to become deputy editor. He left in 1996 to set up ZDNet News, a pioneering web-based news service. Martin joined IT Week as executive news editor in 1998 and was appointed editor in May 1999. In January 2001 he stepped down to become executive editor. Martin’s other published work includes appearances in The Wall Street Journal Europe, BBC News Online and The Guardian. He is a regular conference speaker and loyal Newcastle United supporter.
