European FinTechs listed on The FinTech50 in 2017 have raised a total of $1.29bn since 1 June 2017.The grand total includes significant funding rounds for fast-growing banking alternatives Revolut ($71.3m), Monzo ($71m) and Hot Ten listed 10X Banking ($46,). Swedish e-commerce giant Klarna secured $225m private equity from Permira, in exchange for a 10% stake, as well as undisclosed rounds from Brightfolk and Visa.Median deal value is $28m (across seed, early and later stage). European Q3 median VC (later stage) deal size stood at $17.3m.
Payments was the most funded area, followed by digital banking and security. The total excludes debt financing secured by IZettle, and Atom Bank, $280m Series E by Hall of Fame listed TransferWise and undisclosed strategic investments by Intesa Sanpaolo in Iwoca and by PayPal in Berlin-based Raisin.
Rounds raised before the list launched in June include Funding Circle($100m Series F) and CurrencyCloud ($20m).
The FinTech50 2017 was launched in the first week of June 2017 and features 50 European FinTechs selected by an international panel of experts. It also includes 10 FinTech companies appointed to the Hall of Fame and 10 early-stage FinTechs on this year's Hot Ten. The list received over 100,000 views in its first week online.
